Welsh Language Policy

  • General Statement of Policy

Reynoldston Village Hall Association supports the use of the Welsh Language in its dealings with users and potential users of the Hall. This policy sets out how the Association achieves this goal.

The Association recognises that users of the Hall can express their views and needs better in their preferred language. Enabling them to use their preferred language is a matter of good practice rather than a concession and that the denial of that right could place potential users of the Hall at a real disadvantage.

  • Dealing with Welsh Speaking Users

Anyone wishing to speak in Welsh in relation to dealings with the Hall will be referred to a nominated person. If the nominated person is unavailable at the time, the conversation can be re-scheduled for a time when the nominated person is able to respond, or the individual is welcome to continue with the call in English, or send their enquiry in written form in Welsh.

Correspondence received in Welsh will be answered in Welsh should the correspondent so request.

The Hall holds an Annual General Meeting in spring which is open to members of the public. The business of the meeting is conducted in English. However, should anyone attending wish to participate using the Welsh language, an arrangement will be made for a nominated Welsh speaking person to respond in Welsh on behalf of the Association.

  • The Public Face

The Hall operates an online booking system that is provided by Hall Master. Unfortunately no affordable booking system is available in both English and Welsh languages. However should a potential user require guidance in Welsh in how to use the system a nominated person will contact them to provide such guidance.

Key notices are displayed in both English and Welsh languages.

  • Activities

The Hall is used on a regular basis for the teaching of Welsh. The Association supports and encourages this activity as not only does it meet a need in the community but also assists in the promotion of the Welsh language.
